Good Reference on Neoliberalism

story of neoliberalismSince next coming president election to be held in Indonesia, neoliberalism has become sexiest issues among the candidates to againts each other. Somehow, the candidates debating it when general election for president and each of them claim that they are the true. Is it neoliberalism debates is only to gain voter sympathetic?

This article is not to judge who is the true, but to tell you where you may lear on neoliberalism and where you can get good information about history of neoliberalism. That's are an ebook entitled A Brief History of Neoliberalism that written by David Harvey and published by Oxford. I think the book is good to open our mindset about neoliberalism thought and it's brief of history.

As I quoted a sentence from the book, hope you know my opinion on. Thats are: "neoliberalism is recognized as a failed utopian rhetoric masking a successful project for the restoration of ruling-class power, the more the basis is laid for a resurgence of mass movements voicing egalitarian political demands and seeking economic justice, fair trade, and greater economic security."

Facebook and Politic Interest

Facebook popularity has threat the ruler of some country. Freedom of expression through facebook makes everyone can say everything such as hobby, science, politic, issues, education, business, etc. But, sometime the freedom has touched on (indicated) sensitive political issues in its user countries. Iran for the example, general election moment has become sensitive issue in facebook since the president candidates use facebook to spread their message and some media released that the incumbent (Ahmadinejad) has called for a ban on Facebook during the country's presidential election.

In Indonesia, facebook is also used to express its Indonesian members on their politic expression. Currently, Indonesia is still in general election fase and waiting for the next election for the next president. I have seen in some facebook group, there were different expression about political message has been spread out. Pro, contra, support, hate, etc is typed by user. Even, a TV station displayed facebook member expression on politic in their broadcast. For a politician, Facebook is also useful to campaign. As Barrac Obama did, facebook helped him very much to get support and then win the last United Stated president election.

As I monitored, facebook brings a new method for all to expression and to influnce the other, but facebook also bring conflict and problem. I think the problem is not caused by facebook itself, but by its user. How to use it and what for. I heard that facebook is related to jewish youth organization and support Israel to fight my brother and sister in Palestine, but I can not condemt it because the problem not caused by facebook itself. How come I say:" Go to hell facebook" meanwhile many my brother and sister are member of facebook. My principle is, if you are believe that facebook is bad, so leave it and if you believe that facebook is useful, take it. My conclusion is, whatever media being in internet, it is depend on to you to use it. When you use with a good faith, other people will be helped. For my self, facebook is still useful eventhough I'm seldom to maintain my account there.

Cities in a Globalizing World: Governance, Performance, And Sustainability

Cities in a Globalizing World: Governance, Performance, And SustainabilityWorld Bank research shows that in 2003, 48 percent of the world’s population (3 billion people) lived in urban areas—a 33 percent increase from the 1990 level. By 2020, 4.1 billion people (55 percent of the world’s population) will live in urban areas. Almost 94 percent of the increase will occur in developing countries. By 2015, there will be 22 megacities (cities or agglomeration with a population of more than 8 million) and 475 cities with populations exceeding 1 million. The forces of urbanization promise to reshape the developing world, presenting both opportunities and challenges across the socioeconomic spectrum.

At the same time, globalization is becoming the driving force behind economic growth and development. Cities will have to compete for foot-loose investment flows to generate jobs for their growing urban labor force; and they will have to provide security and access to services and urban infrastructure for their growing urban populations. This will present enormous challenges for local governments, requiring substantial improvement in local capacity and performance. The extent to which individual cities can respond to these challenges depends on a mix of factors—some that are outside any city’s immediate control, some within its control—such as individual city policies and local governance.

Cities in a Globalizing World sheds new light on the dynamics and associations among globalization, urbanization, and local governance. It demonstrates how close these associations are and how crucial they will increasingly become for sustainable development. It also makes clear that better policy design in the field of urbanization will depend on improved analysis of causality, which in turn will require the collection of much better quality data. This book will be of great interest to students and practitioners of urban management and those concerned with globalization and the developing world.

ISS Governance and Democracy Post Graduate Program, I Will Come!

ISS The Institute of Social Studies (ISS) is prestigious high education institution in the Netherlands that offers a program of studies leading to a Masters degree in Development Studies. With a strong focus on training in the theory and methods relevant to development studies, the MA Program aims to equip graduates to apply new insights in policy analysis in a practical context. The ISS MA Degree in Development Studies is widely recognized and provides eligibility for entry to PhD programs in the Netherlands and other countries worldwide.

Right now I'm in my way to get a scholarship support to continue my study at ISS. Enrolling to Governance and Democracy program study at ISS is my passion. As an NGO employee in good ngo governance and civil society development issues, this program is suitable for me. This specialization examines key concepts of governance and democracy in the context of globalization, giving students a greater comprehension of how the processes of governance, markets and democracy interact with those of participation, accountability, representation, and of civil and human rights. The specialization focuses on applying theories and principles of improving governance and democracy across a spectrum of issues, including accountability, inclusive democracy, combating corruption and enforcing the rule of law. Furthermore it looks at the role of the private sector, middle classes and organized labor during national reform processes. In this way the specialization analysis the various responses to the problems of globalization, from attempts to establish global governance to the rise of anti-globalization movements. Visit the official website: www.iss.nl.

ISS argues that the students will become familiar with the way such concepts as governance and democracy, institutional reform, capacity building, accountability and power are understood. They will be able to critically analyze current reform efforts, and become familiar with different theories on how reform and change take place. Hunting and hunting every opportunity and information in order gain scholarship grant and submit an application for competition is my challenges. ISS, welcome me warmly!.
